Luna

Not only is Luna a walking talking thinking cat (I wanna have one too!), she is Usagi's advisor in times of trouble, and her friend in still others. It was Luna who found Usagi and made her into Sailormoon, and it was Luna who gave her knowledge to new attacks, and it is Luna who was always trying to make Usagi get up when she was falling and help others (no matter how tired and wounded she may be). In the American version, they changed Luna's incredibly cute voice into a staggy old English nanny. The purpose of this is to make her seem old and wise, like what a guardian in their thinking, should sound. (Hey, seemed pretty reasonable to me at the time . . .)

  • One:
When Usagi first met Luna ,she saw her as a poor animal being tormented by these awful little boys. She chased them away, and untied the junk from Luna's hand and took the bandage off of her crescent moon. This made Usagi even more late for school, but being the kind-hearted individual that she was, she couldn't very well pass up a poor animal's time of need!

  • Two:

The other sweetest moment between these two is in the S movie. Usagi used the last of her powers to turn Luna into a [very beautiful!] human being so that she could meet the scientist she had a crush on and go out on a date. ^__^

Some people might think that there isn't much of a relationship that lies between these two, but they are wrong. Most people know that Usagi is closer to Luna that what she is credited for, in both the manga and the anime. Evidence of this lies within certain motions that go on between these. When Usagi has a problem, I have noticed that Luna is almost always the very first person she goes to for advise, meaning that she finds Luna a very wise and trusting person (even if she is a cat). And if Luna doesn't know what to do, she makes up for it with a good comforting word or two to help Usagi get through with it. When Usagi is in danger and no one is around to help her, Luna will leap right in there and start scratching and hissing away at the monster. When Luna is tossed to the side and hurt, Usagi runs to her side, almost always forgetting about fighting against the monster.

Usagi did do this in the manga too. When Luna attacked Evil Prince Endymion, Luna leapt at him and began to fight. EPD threw her aside and she hit a pillar. Usagi ran over to her side and saw the blood pouring out from underneath her cat, Usagi attacked EPD with renewed energy; forget about him being her love all for the sake of her cat!

Which is why I like Luna's American voice. It does make her sound like a librarian (or not so, I know about sixteen librarians and they don't sound anything like her), but it also makes her sound like the older, wiser persona that she deserves.
