Chibi-usa

Usagi, or Chibiusa so there isn't a confusion between her mother and herself, is not a person who gets along too well with the present-day Usagi. In the glimpses in which she and her Neo-Queen Serenity mother share moments together, this exists a respect that Chibiusa does not grant Usagi. Perhaps Chibiusa views them as two different people.

It's not a secret that Chibiusa has a crush on her father in both the manga and in the anime. She's constantly trying to steal him for "dates" from Usagi in the anime, and, as Black Lady, she was seen seducing him in the manga. But Chibiusa does realize the importance of Usagi and Mamoru getting together. In one SuperS episode, Mamoru was with an old girl friend, and Chibiusa kept expressing worry over the matter. Usagi believed firmly that her Mamoru would never betray her and, after all, they were destiny--and she couldn't decide which stuffed animal she wanted. =) Chibiusa says in that episode that if Usagi and Mamoru do not get together, then she would never exist.

Chibiusa and Usagi do not really get along with each other. They constantly fight and pull hair or insult one another. They fight over Mamoru constantly, and is it a surprise to see him trying to avoid them when they are together in such a mood?

They pull each other's faces, they pull each other's hair, they pinch one another and cast insults around like there's a first prize going out to the most orginal one. When they get into a fight, the inner senshi sweat drop and make little remarks of what a wonderful mother-daughter relationship they have. It seems more to me like a Rei-Usagi relationship than anything else. ^__^ They fight, but they are there for one another. When they fight with youmas or the villains, they will lay the blame about everything on each other, though they are ready to protect one another. ("It's her fault!" "No! Attack her!" "You wouldn't look so bad in that suit if you dind't have that roll of fat around your waist." "I AM NOT FAT!"

But Chibiusa and Usagi do have their moments together, much like Rei and Usagi do. The first one that comes to mind would be the episode in the R season when Chibiusa was trying to make curry for her class. But she didn't know how, and it wouldn't have mattered because her "aunt and uncle" (AKA grandparents) couldn't come. Usagi caught interest when Chibiusa cried because she knew she couldn't do it on her own. Usagi offered her help, and then said Mamoru might help. When Chibiusa and Mamoru left Usagi behind at the rotting supermarket (the Ayakashi Sisters' handiwork), and they hooked up with Rei, Chibiusa realized she felt much safer with Usagi and wanted to go get her back. In the end of the episode, although Usagi's cooking did not look appetizing, it did taste good. So her efforts weren't a total waste.

And who can forget about the episode where Rubeus finally introduces himself to the senshi, and tries to steal Chibiusa away? Sailormoon ran about in circles, protecting Chibiusa with her own body. I think that something clicked in Chibiusa's mind when Sailormoon pulled her close to her breast (much like the way it clicked in Usagi's mind when Sailoruranus pulled her close and she caught a whiff of her perfume in the S Season). It was Usagi who realized that Chibiusa was lonely and wanted to go back home, and who was hurt more than Usagi when Chibiusa was kidnapped and brainwashed into being the Black Lady?

Mother and daughter, daughter and mother. Two people in the world, and no one else can possibly have a relationship like theirs, not even a father and his son. When the child is young, the mother is the symbol of her world, and when the child is older, than the mother becomes her best friend and confidant. I think this is the reason why Chibiusa does not get along too well with Usagi. She views the clumsy blonde as someone who shatters her symbolic image of her mother, the Neo-Queen Serenity. But as they progress along through the seasons with their relationship, Usagi goes from being a heretic of the Neo-Queen Serenity to something akin to a big sister; someone whom you could love and trust, but don't necessarily have to get along with. Trust me on this point, I have three younger sisters and no older ones; this is how it stands with us.

I believe the turning point in their relationship that later led up to this was when Sailormoon recklessly threw herself at Black Lady, ready to sacrifice herself to cure her. It was in the shining light when Sailormoon became the Neo-Queen Serenity and she held Black Lady's hands. Black Lady turned into Chibiusa and she went into Usagi's arms, crying.

Another memorable moment that comes to mind was the time when Mamoru had a shard of Nephernia's shattered mirror in his eye. The longer he had it in, the more he was became Nephernia's. The more Mamoru because Nephernia's, the more Chibiusa faded. Usagi had run to her daughter's side just as Chibiusa disappeared completely, turning into golden dust that lingered in Usagi's arms. ;_; I cried with Usagi; it was very sad.

And while we are on the same line, let's recall the time when Nephernia said she was going to make Usagi suffer just like herself, and then threw Chibiusa off the floating building. Sailormoon did not hesitate to throw herself after her (she only gave Nephernia a piece of her mind first). She transformed into the Princess Serenity (she didn't have Neo-Queen Serenity's headdress), and she control-fell to Chibiusa and grabbed her, begging her to wake up before it was too late.

*glances at the picture* Em, yes. This is a relationship that has the same basis of the Rei-Usagi one. I believe that Chibiusa might resent Usagi a little because of the way she acts compared to the Neo-Queen Serenity, so she tries to shape her up. However, there is still the precious mother-daughter love that exists between them, and it only tends to show up in the worse moments of the series. But doesn't the worse moment then become the best moment because of this?
